The floodgates are about to open up for lawsuits in NY. Many business relationships that crumbled and transactions that were breached over the past few months are finally going to get to see their day in court....eventually.


I can imagine there will be a major backup due to an abundance of new filings.


If you have a litigation dispute, I'd recommend getting on it ASAP and getting it filed ahead of the pack.


New York will allow new lawsuits to be electronically filed statewide starting Monday, reopening the high-traffic courts of New York City and surrounding counties to new "nonessential" matters for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic shut them down.


However, "this restoration of NYSCEF usage will be limited to cases in which represented parties file and serve all papers electronically."


With the exception of New York City, Long Island and the Hudson Valley, in-person operations will resume elsewhere in the Empire State by next Tuesday.
